Here’s your complete guide to what to bring, and what you can leave at home.

Surf Gear

Surfboard:If you have a board you love, feel free to bring it. Otherwise, Surf Celeste offers high-quality surfboard rentals for its customers, including everything you need, leash, wax, and fins, so you can travel light.

Rash Guard:The ocean in Nosara is warm year-round, so there’s no need for a wetsuit. A rash guard will protect you from the sun and board friction. We provide rash guards for all surf lessons at Surf Celeste, so you don’t need to pack one unless you’d like your own.

Wax and Leash:We’ve got you covered! All boards used for Surf Celeste lessons or rentals include a leash and fresh wax. If you prefer a specific type of wax and have room in your bag, you can bring it — but you’ll also find surf wax easily available in local shops.

Clothing

Nosara’s tropical climate calls for lightweight, breathable clothing, think tank tops, shorts, and sundresses. You can leave long sleeves and pants at home.

Swimwear:Bring several swimsuits that fit securely for surfing. The last thing you want is a wardrobe malfunction while catching waves!

Beach-to-Dinner Outfits:You might go out for a nice dinner or take sunset family photos, so pack a few summer-style “nice” outfits for evenings out.

Light Jacket or Rain Gear:It’s never cold in Nosara, but a light rain jacket can be useful during the rainy season (May–November). A warmer jacket is only needed for travel days if you’re passing through colder airports — Liberia (LIR) is always warm.

Footwear

Flip-Flops or Sandals: Ideal for the beach and everyday wear.

Sneakers or Running Shoes: Great for morning jogs, yoga classes, or jungle hikes.

Water Shoes (optional): Only if you plan to explore rocky tide pools.

Sun Protection

The Costa Rican sun is strong — don’t underestimate it!

Sunscreen: This is a must-have. Sunscreen is quite expensive in Costa Rica, so bringing your own from home is recommended.

Hat: A wide-brimmed hat keeps you cool and shaded.

Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from glare while enjoying Nosara’s bright, beachy days.

Beach Essentials

Towel: Most hotels and Airbnbs provide beach towels. They take up lots of space, so only bring one if your accommodation specifically says they don’t provide it.

Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated and reduce plastic waste.

Beach Bag: A simple, sturdy bag for carrying your essentials to the beach or surf lessons.

Tech Gear

Camera or Smartphone: Capture those stunning Nosara sunsets and your first waves! A waterproof case is a smart addition.

Portable Charger: Keep your devices powered while you’re out exploring.

Personal Items

Insect Repellent: You can bring some, but it’s also easy to buy locally if you prefer to save luggage space.

First Aid Kit: A few basics like band-aids and antiseptic wipes can come in handy.

Cash: Most places in Nosara accept credit cards and U.S. dollars, but a bit of cash is useful for small shops or local markets.
